HARRELL ROAD OPENS TO TRAFFIC
New Drainage Features Will Improve Vehicle Crossing at Claiborne Run

FREDERICKSBURG – Harrell Road (Route 623) in southern Stafford County opened to traffic today following roadway and drainage improvements.

Harrell Road, located between Forbes Street (Route 627) and Deacon Road (Route 607), passes beneath a CSX railroad bridge. Before the improvements, this popular connector road crossing Claiborne Run frequently closed due to high water.

A new drainage system was installed to provide greater water flow beneath the road. Also, steel plates on top of the box culverts are removable, and will allow for easier cleaning and clearing of the culverts to keep water free-flowing. The approaches to the railroad underpass were also improved to enhance the safety of the roadway.
