LANE CLOSURE ON ROUTE 17 BUSINESS IN GLOUCESTER
Northbound lane closure marks beginning of bridge replacement project at Fox Mill Run

FREDERICKSBURG —Northbound Route 17 Business (Main Street) traffic in Gloucester County will narrow to a single lane starting tomorrow morning at Fox Mill Run.

The lane closure will begin 300 ft. south of the bridge over Fox Mill Run, and end 100 ft. north of the bridge. Workers are installing guardrail, signs, and making preparations associated with a bridge replacement project at Fox Mill Run on southbound Route 17 Business.

The northbound lane closure is anticipated to go into effect at approximately 8 a.m. tomorrow. It will be a 24-hour lane closure. Southbound Route 17 Business traffic will not be affected during this stage of the project.

Construction began today on the bridge replacement project, which will eventually alter traffic patterns on northbound and southbound Route 17 Business at Fox Mill Run over the course of the 12-month construction schedule.

Early in 2012, both lanes of southbound Route 17 Business will close at Fox Mill Run. Southbound traffic will be shifted to cross Fox Mill Run on the northbound bridge. Northbound and southbound traffic will each have one travel lane crossing Fox Mill Run during this stage of construction.

When complete, the new bridge will meet modern bridge design standards set by state and federal agencies, and will have no weight restrictions. The bridge will have wider travel lanes and shoulders to accommodate the projected growth in traffic volumes.

Motorists can find real-time information about work zones, traffic incidents and congestion on VDOT’s 24-hour travel information website, www.511Virginia.org. 511Virginia is also available by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
