Motorists Should be Alert for Daytime Road Work on Thursday, April 28 and Friday, April 29

FREDERICKSBURG – Intersection and turn lane improvements are coming to Spotswood Furnace Road (Route 620) in Spotsylvania County at State Route 3, near Riverbend High School.

This week, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will make improvements to lane markings at this intersection, improving traffic flow traveling between Route 3 and Riverbend High School. When the project is complete, there will be one left-turn lane and a shared left-turn/through/right-turn lane for traffic exiting onto Route 3 from Spotswood Furnace Road.

Also, the project will expand the Route 3 turn radius and install new curb in the median.

Nearby, at the intersection of Spotswood Furnace Lane and Spotswood Furnace Road, Spotswood Furnace Lane will be reconfigured to accommodate two turn lanes for exiting traffic. Separate turn lanes will be created for vehicles turning left and turning right, with directional arrows and a stop bar.

Single lane closures may occur on Spotswood Furnace Road, Spotswood Furnace Lane and State Route 3 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 and Friday, Thursday 29.

The work zone hours were chosen to minimize conflict with school arrival and dismissal times. Classes are in session at Riverbend High School from 7:30 a.m. to 2:20 p.m.

This project is expected to be complete following the two days of road work scheduled this week, weather permitting.

Also this week, VDOT will continue a project on Route 3 in Spotsylvania that will improve traffic flow at Andora Drive.

The Andora Drive project will extend the existing left turn lane on westbound Route 3 from 400 ft. to 650 ft. to accommodate additional vehicles waiting to turn left onto Andora Drive.

Motorists traveling west on Route 3 will be restricted to one lane at Andora Drive during the overnight hours this week.

The Andora Drive project is expected to be complete by May 30.

Real-time listings of road conditions in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic and travel information website,  Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
