VDOT COMPLETES TWO SECONDARY ROAD PROJECTS IN SPOTSYLVANIA
Towles Mill Road and Ni River bridge rehabilitation projects completed on schedule

FREDERICKSBURG — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recently completely two secondary road projects in Spotsylvania County.

Towles Mill Road Improvement Project

This $2.4 million improvement project began in June 2010. The project reconstructed a rural, gravel section of Towles Mill Road (Route 656). The improved 2.1 mile section features a paved, widened road with shoulders and improved drainage.

Ni River Bridge Rehabilitation Project

This rehabilitation project of a two-lane bridge on Massaponax Church Road (Route 608) began in early June 2011. This project included patching, milling and a new concrete deck overlay on the bridge. New guardrail was installed along the roadway approaches to the bridge. Temporary traffic signals in place during construction have been removed. The Ni River bridge is located west of Smith Station Road and east of Rising Sun Road. Approximately 2,472 vehicles a day travel on this segment on Massaponax Church Road.

Both projects were completed on schedule.
