STOP SIGN REMOVAL ON ROUTE 606 IN SPOTSYLVANIA
Traffic on Post Oak Road will no longer stop at Old Courthouse Road intersection

FREDERICKSBURG—Next week, traffic on Route 606 (Post Oak Road) will have the right of way at the intersection with Route 793 (Old Courthouse Road), following the removal of a stop sign on Post Oak Road.

On the morning of Tuesday, December 4, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will remove the stop sign on Post Oak Road at the intersection with Route 793.

Once the sign is removed, traffic turning left from Route 606 onto Route 793 must yield to oncoming traffic.

A stop sign on Route 793 for traffic entering Route 606 will remain.

Before the stop sign is removed on Tuesday, VDOT will install multiple new signs before the intersection warning motorists that traffic on Post Oak Road does not stop.

The change was recommended after the opening of the first segment of the Spotsylvania Courthouse Bypass, Phase II. VDOT reviewed traffic volumes at the intersection of Route 606 and Route 793. Traffic counts have fallen significantly, allowing traffic to safely travel without stopping on Post Oak Road.

Electronic message boards have been posted in the area, warning that the stop sign will be removed on Post Oak Road on Tuesday. The message boards will remain in place for two weeks after the removal of the stop sign, reminding motorists of the change.

Real-time listings of road conditions in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic and travel information website, www.511Virginia.org. Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
