ALL LANES OPEN ON ELTHAM BRIDGE AT WEST POINT
Repairs to bridge are complete

FREDERICKSBURG – All lanes have re-opened on Route 33 on the Eltham Bridge at West Point.

Westbound Route 33 closed at the bridge earlier today due to a shifted steel plate. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) completed repairs this evening, and the westbound lanes have re-opened to traffic.

A steel plate between the bridge’s moveable span and stationary portion shifted earlier this afternoon in the westbound lanes. VDOT’s state forces bridge crew responded to the scene and secured the plate.

Eastbound and westbound traffic continued to cross the bridge during the repair, with intermittent traffic stoppages. Eastbound and westbound traffic shared the eastbound travel lanes on the bridge, with one lane open in each direction.

Motorists can call 511, visit www.511Virginia.org or use VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app to find real-time traffic and work zone information in any area of the state.
