INTERSTATE 95 PAVING SET TO BEGIN IN CAROLINE COUNTY
Motorists should expect nighttime lane closures through the summer travel season

FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin a project to improve the travel surface of northbound Interstate 95 in Caroline County this weekend.

Lane closures will begin at 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 23.

Workers will mill and pave a 7-mile section of I-95 beginning at mile marker 108 and extending north to mile marker 115. The work zone is located between Exit 104 (Route 207/Carmel Church) in Caroline and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg) in Spotsylvania County.

American Infrastructure, of Glen Allen, Va., was awarded the contract for this project.

Northbound motorists on I-95 should expect delays in the work zone beginning at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays. The hours of operation will be:

  • Sunday:  Two lanes closed 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.
  • Monday – Thursday: One lane closed at 9 p.m.

     Two lanes closed between 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

There will be no lane closures in place after 5 a.m. on Fridays through 10 p.m. on Sundays for the duration of the project. Work will be suspended over the Fourth of July holiday period.

VDOT urges motorists to be alert, avoid distractions and reduce their speed when traveling through this work zone.

To avoid delays, motorists may exit northbound I-95 at Exit 104 (Route 207/Carmel Church) to access Route 1 as an alternate route.

The paving project is expected to be complete by mid-October.
