LANE CLOSURES ON ELTHAM BRIDGE AT WEST POINT
Westbound, eastbound traffic is reduced to single lane in each direction due to bridge plate work

FREDERICKSBURG – Westbound and eastbound traffic on Route 33 has been reduced to a single lane in each direction on the Eltham Bridge at West Point due to a shifted steel plate.

The westbound lanes of the bridge are closed. Traffic is sharing the eastbound lanes, with one lane of traffic open in each direction.

A steel plate between the bridge’s moveable span and stationary portion shifted earlier this afternoon in the westbound lanes. Bridge officials are on scene to assess the bridge and plate.

The westbound lanes will remain closed until further notice. Additional information will be announced once bridge officials have been able to assess the bridge.

The Eltham Bridge was built in 2007. It crosses the Pamunkey River, and joins New Kent County with West Point.

Motorists can call 511, visit www.511Virginia.org or use VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app to find real-time traffic and work zone information in any area of the state.
