RIGHT LANE RE-OPENS ON CHATHAM BRIDGE
Permanent repair to bridge is scheduled for Tuesday

FREDERICKSBURG – All lanes are now open on the Chatham Bridge (Route 3 Business) between Stafford County and Fredericksburg.

Yesterday, an eastbound travel lane was closed after a hole formed in the bridge deck and travel surface.

The hole, which is 2 feet by 3 feet across, was covered on Sunday with several steel plates that span the width of the travel lane. They were sealed with an asphalt mix used in cold temperatures.

On Tuesday, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) bridge maintenance forces will repair the hole from underneath the bridge. Concrete will be poured to fill the hole in the bridge deck, and asphalt will be used to restore the travel surface.

Motorists can find real-time information about traffic incidents and congestion on VDOT’s 24-hour travel information website, www.511Virginia.org. 511Virginia is also available by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
