BRIDGE REPAIR TO CLOSE ROUTE 612 (LILLY POND ROAD) JULY 14-18
Detour route will be posted for motorists during bridge closure in King and Queen County

FREDERICKSBURG – Route 612 (Lilly Pond Road) in King and Queen County will be closed to traffic next week at the bridge over Dragon Run so bridge crews can repair the structure.

The bridge will close at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 14, and will remain closed through 5 p.m. on Friday, July 18.

Detour signs will be posted to guide motorists along the recommended route, which is 9.9 miles. Motorists should anticipate an additional 15 minutes in travel time.

For southbound traffic, the detour route is Route 607 to Route 617 to Route 612. For northbound traffic approaching from Route 617 (White House Lane), the recommended detour route is Route 612 (Lilly Pond Road) to Route 617 to Route 607.

Currently, the bridge over Dragon Run is structurally deficient, due to deterioration of the bridge’s steel beams. Next week, VDOT will replace the steel beams and timber deck on the bridge, and will install new railings.

By repairing the bridge and closing it to traffic for one week, VDOT can restore the bridge to good condition, and avoid posting a weight limit for vehicles crossing the structure.

Approximately 85 vehicles a day cross the bridge, according to a 2012 VDOT traffic count.

Motorists can call 511, visit www.511Virginia.org, or use VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app to find real-time traffic and work zone information in any area of the state.
