ROAD CONDITION UPDATE
Road conditions continue to deteriorate; motorists urged to stay off the roads

FREDERICKSBURG (10:45 p.m.) – Interstate 95 has patches of snow and ice in the travel lanes and snow covers most primary and secondary routes in the Fredericksburg region, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula areas.  As snow continues to fall road conditions are likely to deteriorate during the overnight and early morning hours.

VDOT crews will work throughout the storm in 12-hour shifts in an effort to make all roads passable within 48 hours after the storm ends.

Motorists are urged to stay off the roads tonight and Thursday.

If you must travel, know the conditions before you go! Check www.511virginia.org or call 511.

VDOT offers these winter driving tips:

• Make sure your vehicle is winter ready – be sure to completely clear all windows, lights, and side mirrors before driving.
• Keep an emergency driving kit in your car.
• Wear your seatbelt and don’t drive distracted.
• Keep a safe distance of at least five seconds behind other vehicles.
• Allow extra time for travel.
• When driving on ice, don’t slam on your brakes. Travel gently. Turn slowly. Sudden changes can cause your car to spin out of control.
• Drive smart and pay attention.
