SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 17 TRAFFIC TO SHIFT LANES THURSDAY NIGHT
Motorists should expect minor delays overnight in Stafford County

FREDERICKSBURG – Motorists on southbound Route 17 in Stafford County may encounter minor travel delays between Cardinal Forest Drive and International Parkway overnight on Thursday, April 24.

Southbound Route 17 traffic will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. Thursday until 5:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25.

Workers will be removing existing lane markings, and painting new lane markings. Following this work, southbound Route 17 will then be shifted into temporary travel lanes.

Traffic cones, barrels and signs will guide drivers into the temporary travel lanes, which will be slightly left of the existing lanes.

Temporary travel lanes have been built along the median of Route 17. Shifting traffic into these lanes provides space for VDOT and its contractor, Henderson Construction Co., to work on widening Route 17 along the right side of the road.

A $48.9 million project is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The project began in June 2013, and will be completed by December 1, 2016.

Real-time listings of travel times, work zones, and traffic incidents in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic information website, www.511Virginia.org.

Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia, or downloading VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app.
