UPDATE: NORRIS BRIDGE WORK CANCELLED TONIGHT
Overnight repairs to the bridge travel surface will resume on Thursday, May 26 and May 31-June 26,
FREDERICKSBURG – Planned bridge work on the Robert O. Norris Bridge over the Rappahannock River has been cancelled for tonight.
Overnight repairs to the bridge’s travel surface will resume on Thursday, May 26.
Over the next two weeks, crews will remove temporary asphalt patches on the bridge’s travel surface and replace them with concrete.
Route 3 traffic will be reduced to one lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the Norris Bridge on the following dates:
- Thursday, May 26
- Tuesday, May 31 to Thursday, June 2
Motorists will be guided through the work zone by a flagging crew and pilot vehicle. The contractor has been directed to allow motorists to be delayed no more than approximately 20 minutes during the work zone.
The Norris Bridge crosses the Rappahannock River between Lancaster and Middlesex counties.
Message boards are posted on routes leading to the bridge in Middlesex and Lancaster counties to notify motorists of the overnight lane closures over the next two weeks.

VDOT’s 14-county Fredericksburg District includes the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford in the Fredericksburg area; Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster and Westmoreland counties in the Northern Neck; Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex counties in the Middle Peninsula.
