Motorists can anticipate double lane closures, including a full traffic stop up to 15 minutes at mile marker 121 in Spotsylvania County on May 1

FREDERICKSBURG – Multiple work zones on Interstate 95 near Fredericksburg will require double lanes closures next week.

Beginning Sunday, April 30 through Wednesday, May 3, motorists will encounter double lane closures at various locations along the I-95 in the city of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County. 

On Monday, May 1 motorists will encounter a 15- minute traffic stop on I-95 northbound at mile marker 121 in Spotsylvania County. 

The following lane closures are planned, weather permitting:

Sunday, April 30 ˗˗ Wednesday, May 3

I-95 Northbound and Southbound at mile marker 131 (Fall Hill Avenue)

  • Double lane closure on I-95 northbound between 10 p.m. ˗˗ 1 a.m.
  • Double lane closure on I-95 southbound between 1 a.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.
  • All lanes reopen to traffic by 5 a.m.

Crews will be installing overhead signs at the new Fall Hill Avenue overpass.

Monday, May 1

I-95 Northbound at mile marker 121 (Ni River Bridge) north of Exit 118 (Thornburg)

  • Single lane closure at 9 p.m.
  • Double lane closure at 10 p.m.
  • Full traffic stop at midnight for approximately 15 minutes
  • All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2

Crews will be continuing their work to improve the condition of the bridge over the Ni River in Spotsylvania County.

Message boards will warn travelers to stay alert for work zones ahead and possible delays.

This is in addition to upcoming bridge maintenance work on southbound I-95 in Prince William County scheduled for the next two weekends. Crews will be making large-scale repairs to the bridge over Neabsco Creek at Exit 156/Dale City.  Congestion and delays are expected to be extensive. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes to avoid southbound I-95 for the next two weekends of work.

Saturday, April 29 ˗˗ Monday, May 1

  • Single lane closure beginning Saturday at 9 p.m. through 6 a.m., Monday
