BE ALERT FOR TEMPORARY TRAFFIC PATTERN AT ROUTE 17 AND I-95 IN STAFFORD COUNTY
Route 17 northbound, southbound will be reduced to 2 lanes near I-95 overpass bridges to allow crews to gather soil samples for I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing
FREDERICKSBURG – Drivers traveling on Route 17 in Stafford County near the Interstate 95 overpass bridges are asked to be alert for a temporary traffic pattern that will be in place intermittently over the next two weeks.
Crews will be gathering soil samples underneath the I-95 bridges at Exit 133 in preparation for the Interstate 95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project. Workers will also be testing for utility line locations.
Route 17 northbound and southbound will be reduced to two lanes in each direction at the overpasses to provide space for crews and equipment.
The merge lane for vehicles entering and exiting I-95 underneath the bridges will be shifted inside by a single lane. Work zone signs and barrels will guide motorists through the work zone.

The Interstate 95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project is building three new southbound lanes on I-95 from just north of Exit 133 in Stafford County to just south of Exit 130 in Fredericksburg. Three new southbound lanes will be built in the median of I-95 to carry through traffic. The three existing I-95 southbound lanes will be converted to lanes for local traffic. The $132 million project will also replace the I-95 overpasses bridging Route 17.
Construction will begin in summer 2018 and will be completed in 2022.
