CUSTIS MILL POND ROAD IN KING WILLIAM NOW OPEN AFTER BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT
Detour lifted after crews built a new bridge over Mill Creek
FREDERICKSBURG – Custis Mill Pond Road in King William County is now open after a bridge replacement project over Mill Creek. The bridge is located between Seatons Lane and Wakema Road.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed Custis Mill Pond Road in late December 2017 to begin work to replace the structurally deficient bridge.
State forces built the new concrete bridge, which is more than double the length of the previous structure. Crews replaced the steel beam and deck with a 54-foot long concrete single slab bridge on new concrete abutments.
New guardrail will also be installed tomorrow, May 24. Drivers should anticipate flagging operations during the day. Traffic will be alternating, one-way across the bridge until guardrail installation is complete.
Custis Mill Pond Road carries an average of 930 vehicles a day, according to a 2016 VDOT traffic count.
