Overnight limited access at Route 3 and Carl D. Silver Parkway starts Sunday, Aug. 19 through early Friday, Aug. 24

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Drivers will be restricted to right turns in and right turns out of Central Park in Fredericksburg next week to allow crews to mill and pave as part of the project to improve safety and operations at the Interstate 95 Exit 130 interchange. The overnight limited access at Route 3 and Carl D. Silver Parkway will start Sunday, Aug. 19 and continue each evening through early Friday, Aug. 24.

Virginia State Police will be present at the intersection to assist with traffic control.

Drivers will be guided by detour signs to use Trade Street, Commerce Street or Central Park Boulevard to enter or exit Central Park during the work zone. Access to all businesses, hotels and destinations in Central Park will be maintained during the road work.

Message boards and extra signage will be posted to warn motorists about the closures and detour.

The following lane closures at the Exit 130/Route 3 interchange and Carl D. Silver Parkway are scheduled next week:

Insterstate 95 Northbound:

  • Sunday  Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
  • Expect a single lane to be closed on I-95 northbound near Exit 130.

Route 3 Eastbound

  • Sunday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.
  • Expect alternating double lane closures on Route 3 eastbound to allow crews to mill and pave.

Route 3 Westbound

  • Sunday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.
  • Expect alternating double lane closures on Route 3 westbound to allow crews to do similar work.

Carl D. Silver Parkway

  • Sunday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.
  • All southbound lanes on Carl D. Silver Parkway at Route 3, Central Park’s main exit, will be closed except the right turn lane to Route 3 westbound. Drivers will be restricted to right turn ins and right turns out of the main shopping area.

Crews are making progress to open the triple left-turn lanes from Route 3 eastbound to I-95 northbound to enter the interstate without using the existing cloverleaf on-ramp. The 3 left-turn lanes will be controlled by a new traffic signal. The triple left-turn lanes are being built just beyond the I-95 overpass to increase capacity to the on-ramp and are anticipated to open later this month.

Construction on the $21 million project began July 2017 and will be completed by January 2019.
