EXPECT I-95 LANE AND RAMP CLOSURES OVERNIGHT AT FREDERICKSBURG THIS WEEK
Expect overnight delays on I-95 northbound and southbound

FREDERICKSBURG – Drivers should anticipate overnight delays and lane closures on Interstate 95 with multiple work zones scheduled near Fredericksburg this week beginning tonight, May 7 through early Saturday, May 12.

To allow crews to pave at the Exit 130/Route 3 interchange in Fredericksburg, crews will be closing the Exit 130 southbound off-ramp to westbound Route 3 each evening through early Thursday, May 10 as part of the I-95 safety improvement project. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control at the ramp and along the recommended detour.

The following lane closures are scheduled, weather permitting:

I-95 Southbound

  • Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County

o   Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. and Friday ˗˗ Saturday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m.

  • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. on I-95 southbound followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge for a bridge rehabilitation project. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. the following morning. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. On Friday evening, only a single lane will remain closed beginning at 9 p.m. and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Saturday. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).
  • Exit 130B (Route 3) Off-Ramp CLOSURE City of Fredericksburg

o   Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

  • The I-95 southbound off-ramp to westbound Route 3 will be closed for paving work. During the closure, drivers will be detoured to the following off-ramp to eastbound Route 3 (Exit 130A) and proceed to the intersection of Rt. 3 and Gateway Boulevard. Once at the intersection, traffic can U-turn to access westbound Route 3.   
  • Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road) Off-Ramp Spotsylvania County

o   Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.  

I-95 Northbound

  • Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County

o   Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Friday ˗˗ Saturday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m.

  • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. on I-95 northbound followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning. On Friday evening, only a single lane will remain closed beginning at 9 p.m. and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Saturday. 
  • Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponax) Spotsylvania County

o   Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.

  • A single lane on I-95 northbound near Exit 126/Massaponax will close at 9 p.m. to allow crews to make repairs to the bridge over Route 1 followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m.  All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
  • Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County

o   Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.

  • A single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed at the interchange for construction activities.

Overhead message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
