At night, drivers will be restricted to right turns in and right turns out at Carl D. Silver Parkway and Route 3 on Sunday, June 10 through early Friday, June 15

FREDERICKSBURG – To allow crews to work safely to install new storm sewer lines across Route 3 near Central Park in Fredericksburg, drivers should anticipate limited access overnight at the main shopping area entrance and exit next week.

The work is part of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) project to improve safety and operations at the Interstate 95 Exit 130 interchange.

Weather permitting, traffic will be restricted to right turns in and right turns out only at Route 3 and Carl D. Silver Parkway beginning Sunday, June 10 through early Friday, June 15 from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. each evening.

Virginia State Police will be present at the intersection to assist with traffic control.

Drivers will be guided by detour signs to use Trade Street, Commerce Street or Central Park Boulevard to enter or exit Central Park during the work zone. Access to all businesses, hotels and destinations in Central Park will be maintained during the road work.

All I-95 entrance and exit ramps at Exit 130/Route 3 will remain open.

Message boards and extra signage will be posted to warn motorists about the closures and detour.

The following lane closures at the Exit 130/Route 3 interchange and Carl D. Silver Parkway are scheduled next week:

Carl D. Silver Parkway

Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.

All southbound lanes on Carl D. Silver Parkway at Route 3, Central Park’s main exit, will be closed except the right turn lane to Route 3 westbound.

Route 3 Eastbound

Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.

All left turn lanes on Route 3 eastbound to Carl D. Silver Parkway, Central Park’s main entrance, will be closed.

Route 3 Westbound

Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.

Expect the single leftmost turn lane on Route 3 westbound to Burger King to be closed.Crews are making progress to open the separate free-flow lane from the I-95 southbound exit ramp to Carl D. Silver Parkway.

The free-flow lane will allow drivers to exit the interstate and enter Central Park without merging or weaving with westbound Route 3 traffic. While this lane was scheduled to open in late May, the contractor is now anticipating opening the lane in mid-June, weather permitting. Construction began July 2017 and will be completed by January 2019. The contractor is Branch Civil, Inc.
