Route 3 over the Rappahnnock River will be reduced to a single lane between 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3 through Monday, Jan. 7

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The final week of a scheduled bridge inspection on the Robert O. Norris Bridge will be underway from Thursday, Jan. 3 to Monday, Jan. 7.

Travelers can expect lane closures on Route 3 on the Norris Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Lancaster and Middlesex counties at the following times and dates, weather permitting:

Norris Bridge Scheduled Inspection

Thursday, Jan. 3 – Monday, Jan. 7

  • 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. – single lane closure

This inspection of the entire bridge is completed once every two years. All fracture-critical elements on Norris Bridge are inspected annually.

The bridge inspection began in October 2018, but the final week of work was postponed to allow a separate bridge pin cleaning and replacement project to proceed. The pin cleaning and replacement project is complete.
