FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT: VDOT READY FOR POSSIBLE WEEKEND SNOW
Crews are finishing pre-treatment of primary roads today; Travelers should plan to monitor news and weather reports this weekend and check 511Virginia for real-time road conditions
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – As Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews complete pre-treatment of Interstate 95 and primary roads today across the Fredericksburg District, travelers are asked to keep a close eye on news and weather reports this weekend for possible changes in road conditions.
VDOT is monitoring weather reports, and staff have staged equipment and treatment materials for quick deployment early Sunday when a wintry mix of snow and rain may potentially affect the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.
More than 1,200 pieces of equipment are available in the 14-county VDOT Fredericksburg District to plow snow from the travel lanes and apply sand and salt to reduce icing and improve traction.
Drivers are encouraged to check 511Virginia before starting a trip for real-time information about road conditions in Virginia. Motorists can download the free mobile 511 app for Apple and Android devices to stay connected, visit www.511virginia.org, or reach 511Virginia by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia.
Travelers are encouraged to stay off the roads during the storm unless travel is absolutely necessary. If you must travel, allow extra travel time, reduce your speed, and increase following distance between vehicles.

VDOT Online Snow Plow Tracker
If snow reaches two inches or more, VDOT activates an online snow plow tracking map. VDOT and contractor trucks are equipped with automatic vehicle location technology, and can be monitored on the tracker during snow removal operations.
