INDIAN ROAD IN GLOUCESTER COUNTY CLOSED WITH WASHOUT
Crews on scene to set up detour, assess damage and plans for repair
FREDERICKSBURG – Route 605 (Indian Road) in Gloucester County is closed between Fary’s Mill Road and Mohican Drive after the recent heavy rain caused pipes underneath the road to fail.
Crews are on the scene to set up a detour around the washout, assess the damage and develop plans for repair.
A re-opening date is not yet available with the road requiring significant repairs.
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will work to replace or repair the pipes and the damaged roadway.
Signs will soon be posted along the recommended detour, which is approximately 11 miles:
- Route 603 (Figg Shop Road)

Commercial vehicles are encouraged to detour to the nearby primary routes, including Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway) and Route 14 (John Clayton Memorial Highway).
According to a recent traffic count, approximately 1,000 vehicles a day travel Indian Road.
