LONGER LEFT TURN LANES COMING TO ROUTE 1 NORTHBOUND AT SOUTHPOINT PARKWAY IN SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY
Crews will modify the median to increase space for vehicles turning left onto Southpoint Parkway, and reduce delays for Route 1 northbound traffic
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will lengthen the left turn lanes for Route 1 northbound traffic turning onto Southpoint Parkway in Spotsylvania County to create more storage space for vehicles.
Longer left turn lanes will also reduce congestion in the travel lanes of Route 1 northbound.
Beginning Sunday, June 3, crews will realign the concrete median to lengthen the dual left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound to Southpoint Parkway.
Crews will move the existing median before installing new pavement markings to reflect the extension of the dual left turn lanes.
On Route 1 southbound, the length of the left turn lane to Route 17/Mills Drive will be slightly decreased, where fewer vehicles are waiting to turn left.
Weather permitting, drivers can expect single lane closures on Route 1 overnight while crews work beginning Sunday, June 3 from 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. and will continue Monday, June 4 through Friday, June 8 from 9 p.m. – 7 a.m.
Work is expected to be complete by early Friday, June 8.
