NIGHTTIME WORK CONTINUES ON I-95 IN FREDERICKSBURG
Expect overnight lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound with full traffic stops at Exit 140/Courthouse Road

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Drivers should expect overnight lane closures on Interstate 95 in the Fredericksburg area this week with work zones requiring double lane closures and full traffic stops starting tonight, Sept. 4.

Full traffic stops on I-95 northbound are scheduled at Exit 140/Courthouse Road to allow crews to continue to install bridge beams as part of the project to reconfigure the interchange to a diverging diamond. Traffic will be stopped up to 30 minutes at a time for motorist safety. 

Overnight travelers on I-95 are encouraged to use Route 1 or Route 301 to avoid delays.

The following lane closures are scheduled, weather permitting, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

I-95 Northbound

  • Mile Marker 137 at Potomac Creek Bridge in Stafford County

o   Tuesday  Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. for a bridge rehabilitation project.  All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.  The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway). 

o   Tuesday  Thursday Expect a single lane to close at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m.  I-95 northbound traffic will be intermittently stopped overnight between midnight and 3 a.m. for up to 30 minutes at a time. The northbound on-ramp will also be closed during the traffic stops. Crews will continue to lift bridge beams into place for new interstate overpasses at Courthouse Road. All southbound lanes will remain open. All northbound lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

  • Mile Marker 144 to Mile Marker 147 in Stafford County

o   Tuesday  Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. on I-95 northbound passed Exit 143/Garrisonville at mile marker 144 to mile marker 147 to allow crews to mill and pave this section of the interstate. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

  • Mile Marker 145 at Aquia Creek Bridge in Stafford County

o   Thursday  Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. for a bridge rehabilitation project. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning. The bridge is located at mile marker 145, just north of Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville). 

I-95 Southbound

  • Mile Marker 145 at Aquia Creek Bridge in Stafford County

o   Thursday  Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m.  A single lane will remain closed until 7 a.m. on southbound. 

  • Mile Marker 137 at Potomac Creek Bridge in Stafford County

o   Tuesday  Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 7 a.m. the following morning. 

  • Mile Marker 130 (Route 3) City of Fredericksburg

o   Tuesday  Thursday: The I-95 southbound ramp to Route 3 westbound at Exit 130 will close from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each evening for paving and pavement markings. I-95 southbound traffic seeking to access Route 3 westbound will be detoured to I-95 Exit 130A to Route 3 eastbound, then directed to make a U-turn at Gateway Boulevard to Route 3 westbound. The work is connected to the I-95 Safety Improvements Project at the Exit 130 interchange.

I-95 Northbound and Southbound

  • Mile Marker 129 in City of Fredericksburg to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) Stafford County

o   Tuesday Friday: Expect a single lane closure between mile marker 129 which is near Exit 130 (Route 3) and Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to allow crews to install temporary concrete barriers along the left shoulder of I-95 northbound and southbound. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. on I-95 northbound and 10 a.m. on I-95 southbound.  The work is connected to construction starting for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

Overhead message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and delays.
