OVERNIGHT WORK MAY CAUSE DELAYS ON I-95 NEAR FREDERICKSBURG THIS WEEK
Several work zones are scheduled on I-95 beginning tonight, April 30

FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is encouraging motorists to anticipate overnight delays and lane closures on Interstate 95 near Fredericksburg with multiple work zones scheduled this week requiring double lane closures.

Overnight work on I-95 begins tonight, April 30 and every evening through early Saturday, May 5.

The following lane closures are scheduled, weather permitting:

I-95 Northbound

  • Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) Stafford County

o   Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

  • Expect a single lane to be closed on I-95 northbound from mile marker 139 to mile marker 141 to allow crews to shift traffic barrier near the Exit 140 interchange.
  • Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County

o   Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Friday ˗˗ Saturday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m.

  • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. on I-95 northbound followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning. On Friday evening, only a single lane will remain closed beginning at 9 p.m. and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Saturday. 
  • Exit 130 (Route 3) City of Fredericksburg

o   Wednesday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

I-95 Southbound 

 

  • Districtwide Pothole Repair

o   Wednesday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.

  • Expect mobile lane closures on I-95 southbound as needed for pothole repair. Crews will be working between the Prince William/Stafford counties’ line at mile marker 148 to the Caroline/Hanover counties’ line at mile marker 101.
  • Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) Stafford County

o   Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.

  • Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County

o   Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. and Friday ˗˗ Saturday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m.

  • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. on I-95 southbound followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge for a bridge rehabilitation project. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. the following morning. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. On Friday evening, only a single lane will remain closed beginning at 9 p.m. and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Saturday. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).
  • Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponax) Spotsylvania County

o   Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.

  • A single lane on I-95 southbound near Exit 126/Massaponax will close at 9 p.m. to allow crews to make repairs to the bridge over Route 1 followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m.  All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Overhead message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
