TURN LANE PROJECT AT RAPPAHANNOCK COMMUNITY COLLEGE COMPLETE IN GLOUCESTER COUNTY
SMART SCALE project to lengthen turn lanes to enter campus from Route 33, improved access to Park & Ride lot and public transit stop complete on time and under budget
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recently completed a turn lane improvement project on Route 33 at the Rappahannock Community College – Glenns campus in Gloucester County on time and under budget.
Construction began on Oct. 1 to extend the right and left turn lanes into the campus parking lot to add more storage space for turning vehicles and reduce congestion on Route 33 through travel lanes.
The $625,000 project also improved access to the Park & Ride commuter lot and a public transit stop on the campus. The Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission submitted an application to build this project through Virginia’s SMART SCALE transportation funding program.
Howard Brothers Contractor, Inc. was awarded the contract earlier this year. Howard Brothers Contractor, Inc. and the VDOT project team finished work on Friday, Dec. 14, the anticipated completion date.
VDOT’s 14-county Fredericksburg District includes the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford in the Fredericksburg area; Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster and Westmoreland counties in the Northern Neck; Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex counties in the Middle Peninsula.
