UPDATE: DREDGING WORK TO AFFECT MERRY POINT FERRY IN LANCASTER COUNTY
Ferry will be out of service on July 31-Aug. 1 and Aug. 7-8
UPDATE: The Merry Point Ferry will also be out of service on Thursday, August 2 and through noon Friday, August 3. Dredging work at the ferry approaches has been extended due to inclement weather that postponed work earlier in the week. FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Merry Point Ferry in Lancaster County will be out of service over four days in July and August for dredging at the ferry landing approaches.
The Merry Point Ferry will not operate on these four dates:
• Tuesday, July 31 and Wednesday, August 1
• Tuesday, August 7 and Wednesday, August 8
The Merry Point Ferry is a free ferry service operated by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Located on scenic byway Route 604 (Merry Point Road and Ottoman Ferry Road), it crosses the western end of the Corrotoman River. VDOT’s 14-county Fredericksburg District includes the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford in the Fredericksburg area; Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster and Westmoreland counties in the Northern Neck; Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex counties in the Middle Peninsula.
