BURNT MILL ROAD BRIDGE REOPENS IN SURRY COUNTY
SURRY - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reopened the Burnt Mill Road (Route 628) Bridge in Surry County on Friday, January 5 at 1:30 p.m. An October Nor’easter washed out the embankment and westbound approach to the 100-foot bridge, which was subsequently closed.
VDOT secured an emergency contract to repair 350 feet of embankment and the approach. Toano-based Bryant Contracting completed the project 21 days ahead of schedule at a cost of $223,000.
For the latest information about traffic and construction in Hampton Roads, motorists can dial 511, listen to 610 AM or visit www.VirginiaDOT.org. Motorists also are encouraged to call VDOT’s new Hampton Roads TrafficLine at 757-361-3016 to hear the Highway Advisory Radio transmission from 610 AM and to access bridge and tunnel information.
