Bridge Dedication Honors Fallen Senior Trooper Robert A. Hill, Sr.
State and County to Host Ceremony in Southampton County

Southampton County, VA – The Senior Trooper Robert A. Hill Bridge will be dedicated at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at a ceremony hosted by Southampton County, the Virginia State Police and the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The bridge which is located on Delaware Road (Route 687) over U.S. Route 58 in Southampton County was designated the Trooper Robert A. Hill Bridge this year when the Virginia General Assembly passed legislation. Delegate Roslyn Tyler was the chief patron of the bill.

Senior Trooper Robert A. Hill, Sr. was issuing a summons to a stopped motorist on the afternoon of November 24, 2006, in Southampton County, when he was struck and killed by a passing vehicle. Hill had been a Trooper for 19 years. This ceremony will mark the bridges naming and unveiling of the sign.

Honored guests will include the Hill Family, the Honorable John W. Marshall, Secretary of Public Safety, and the Superintendent of the Virginia State Police, Colonel W. Steven Flaherty.

The event will be held at the Virginia State Police Area 34 office located at 30010 Camp Parkway in Courtland, Virginia. Please feel free to contact Sergeant Michelle A. Cotton of the Virginia State Police or Tia Freeman, a Virginia Department of Transportation Public Relations Specialist, for additional information.

*** Editor/Producers Note:  The media is invited and encouraged to cover this very visual dedication. For photos of the event please contact Sgt. Michelle A. Cotton at michelle.cotten@vsp.virginia.gov or Tia Freeman at tia.freeman@vdot.virginia.gov.
