FLOODGATE TESTING SCHEDULED AT THE MIDTOWN TUNNEL SUNDAY
NORFOLK— The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the Midtown Tunnel on Sunday, May 18 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. to test the floodgates. Motorists should plan on using the Downtown Tunnel as an alternate during this time.
Prior to the testing, one eastbound lane of the Midtown Tunnel will close from 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. for maintenance repairs and to prepare for the testing. Traffic will alternate in the open lane. Both lanes of the tunnel will close from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. The eastbound lane of the Midtown Tunnel will remain closed for maintenance from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Traffic will again alternate in the open lane.
