NEWPORT NEWS— Motorists traveling on Jefferson Avenue (Route 143) between Buchanan Drive and Richneck Road should expect a traffic shift to occur beginning the week of Monday, May 19. Traffic will be shifted to the east (toward Jefferson Avenue south) so that crews may begin construction of the new northbound lanes.  Two travel lanes will remain open in both directions. This traffic configuration will remain in place until 2009.
