CONSTRUCTION COMPLETE ON FORT EUSTIS BOULEVARD
Work completed on time and within budget
NEWPORT NEWS –Construction has been completed on the Fort Eustis Boulevard Widening Project between Jefferson Avenue (Route 143) in Newport News and George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) in York County. All lanes were opened to traffic on Tuesday, April 10, a few days in advance of the April 16 completion date.
The project began in October 2009, and was completed on time and within budget, at a cost of $15.8 million. In addition to widening the roadway to two lanes in each direction, project improvements include a landscaped median, new turn lanes, a new traffic signal, sound walls and a new roadway drainage system to improve storm water runoff.
