CREATES REGIONAL JOB OPPORTUNITES
Close to a thousand job seekers attend job fair in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH—Elizabeth River Tunnels Project (ERT), including Elizabeth River Crossings and design-build contractors, SKW Constructors, hosted a job fair Thursday, September 5, at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel and Waterfront Conference Center, in Portsmouth.

Project contractors and subcontractors were available to meet with nearly a thousand applicants to fill approximately 100 new positions created by the project. Positions included skill laborers, office staff, IT technicians and customer service representatives. Participating companies were:

6 M Services & Management LLC
Curtis Contracting, Inc., (SWaM)
Gilliam Welding (DBE)

The project’s job creation is expected to include more than $1 billion of construction works to be built by local companies, more than 500 project-direct jobs and more than 1,000 indirect jobs in the community with related industries and suppliers. The project also creates over 100 permanent facilities, maintenance and operations jobs.

The Elizabeth River Tunnels Project includes building a new Midtown Tunnel, rehabilitating the existing Midtown and Downtown Tunnels, and extending the Martin Luther King Freeway. Elizabeth River Crossings OpCo, LLC, is the private partner of the Virginia Department of Transportation for the design, construction, finance, operations and maintenance of the Elizabeth River Tunnels Project.
