PILE DRIVING FOR ELIZABETH RIVER TUNNELS PROJECT BEGINS IN NORFOLK
PORTSMOUTH – The Elizabeth River Tunnels Project team begins production pile driving this week to support construction of the Norfolk Approach to the new Midtown Tunnel.
Crews will begin driving precast concrete piles that range from 18” to 24” square and up to 85 feet in length. They will serve as a vital foundation component of the new approach. Nearby residents and businesses may see and/or hear the operations, which are not expected to exceed the City of Norfolk’s noise ordinance. Work hours are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. now, through early spring.
Headquartered in Portsmouth, Virginia, Elizabeth River Crossings OpCo, LLC, is the private partner of the Virginia Department of Transportation for the design, construction, finance, operations and maintenance of the Elizabeth River Tunnels Project.
