ROUTE 659 BRIDGE OVER FLAT SWAMP CREEK PROJECT READY TO BEGIN
Construction scheduled to start next week
SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY– A project to replace the Route 659 Bridge over Flat Swamp Creek is scheduled to begin construction March 7, 2016. Contract crews for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will demolish then replace the bridge and rebuild the approach roadways to tie into the new bridge. The new bridge will be 50 feet long and 27 feet wide.
The Route 659 Bridge over Flat Swamp Creek will close to traffic, and signed detours will be in place.
Infrastructure & Industrial Contractors Southeast, Inc. was awarded the $1.3 million contract for the new bridge replacement in December 2015. The project will continue over the next eight months, with completion scheduled for November 2016.
