SUFFOLK —Almost 24-hours after Hurricane Irene swept through the area, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) employee and contractor crews continue to work 12-hour shifts in order to remove debris from the region’s roadways. All bridges, interstates and state-maintained primary routes have been cleared in Hampton Roads. However, VDOT will continue its efforts in clearing secondary routes, specifically in James City County, Greensville, York and Southampton counties.
