Highway Contracts Awarded
Fielder’s Choice Enterprises, Inc. of Charlottesville, VA was awarded a $464,000 contract for construction of new curb and gutter and sidewalk on the north side of Route 1111 in the Town of Charlotte Court House which will enhance pedestrian traffic through the area. The project starts at the intersection of Route 47 and ends at the intersection of Route 40. Two schools-- Charlotte County Middle School and Randolph Henry High School-- are served by this road. Traffic will be controlled through the use of construction signage, flaggers, and channelizing devices. There will be minimal impact on users of this roadway and nearby residents; however, with permission of the Board of Supervisors, the road may be closed to through traffic at times during construction to facilitate construction. The project is slated for completion by April 24, 2009.
Crews Construction Co., Inc. of Dry Fork, VA was awarded a $342,000 contract for projects to improve safety on eleven roads in Pittsylvania County by upgrading the travel surface and to promote savings on long term maintenance. The roads are Routes 1069-Camney Road, 706-Game Reserve Road, 956-Junior Dodson Road, 843-Primitive Baptist Road, 831-Elm Road, 1113-Blankenship Road, 643-Derby Road, 1047-Wright Lane, 1052- Pitchfork Road, 1659-Wilson Street, and 786-Snowberry Road. The existing roads are gravel; construction will consist of among other things, adding additional base material, shaping and compacting the stone, and a prime and double seal surface treatment. Roadway widths will remain 15’ to 18’. All work will take place on existing right of way and no utility adjustments are required. Minimal traffic delays can be expected but the roads will remain open to traffic at all times. The projects have a fixed completion date of May 31, 2009
MAKCO, Inc. of Charlottesville, VA was awarded a $367,000 contract for the installation of new guardrail at various locations throughout the Lynchburg District. Existing right of way will be utilized. The project has a fixed completion date of January 30, 2009.
