ROUTE 58 BUSINESS TRAFFIC TO BE DETOURED
Road closed temporarily for Worsham Street Bridge demolition project

Motorists might want to consider using alternate routes to Route 58 Business under the Worsham Street Bridge for several days late next week.

Joseph B. Fay Company, prime contractor on the project, will restrict the road under the bridge to one lane in either direction beginning the week of July 13. Then, crews will close the road completely from 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 to no later than 12:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20. The closure is necessary to ensure the safety of motorists and crews during the demolition process.

The following detours will be in place and signs and other traffic control devices will be used to alert motorists to the change in traffic pattern.

Route 58 Truck Traffic:
58 East
– South of Route 86. Travel about 4 miles and go east/north on the Route 58/29 Bypass toward South Boston. Return to Route 58 East in approximately 4 miles.

58 West – Follow the Route 58/29 Bypass west/south toward Martinsville/Greensboro. Travel about 4 miles to Route 86. Go north on Route 86 for about 4 miles and return to Route 58 West.

Local Detour:
Westbound 58 Business
– From westbound 58 Business, take a right at Old Halifax Road. Take a sharp left at Halifax Road, go down the hill and across the railroad tracks. After crossing Fall Creek Bridge, bear right on East Thomas Street. Take at left at the North Main Street signal, proceed to Route 58 Business and take a right to go westbound.

Eastbound 58 Business – From eastbound 58 Business, go left at North Main Street, take a right at the first signal at East Thomas Street. East Thomas Street turns into Halifax Road prior to the railroad tracks. Cross the railroad tracks, go the Oakland Avenue and take a right. Proceed to Route 58 and take a left to return eastbound.

Motorists are urged to use caution in this or any highway work zone and to allow extra time for travel.
