ROUTE 605 IN PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY TO BE CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC
Abutment work to take place on structure over Roaring Fork Creek
LYNCHBURG—Motorists will use an alternate route for a few months while the abutments on the bridge on Route 605 over Roaring Fork Creek are widened and rehabilitated.
The closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 4 and last for approximately eight weeks. The road will be closed to through traffic between Routes 57 and 793 and signs have been posted to alert motorists to this change in traffic pattern
A signed detoured has been established. The detour is Route 605 to Route 649 to Route 799 to Route 57 and back to Route 605.
This is the first step toward elimination of the posted structure. In March 2011, the bridge will be closed again for approximately 8 weeks to remove the existing truss span and replace it with a new one. The new structure will be wider and will carry two lanes of traffic; in addition, it will not have a posted weight limit.
