TRAFFIC SWITCH SLATED FOR PIEDMONT DRIVE/ROBERTSON BRIDGE PROJECT
LYNCHBURG – Motorists are urged to be alert to a change in traffic pattern as they begin to use the new bridge on the Piedmont Drive/Robertson Bridge transportation improvement project in Danville on Wednesday, August 3, 2011.
The new traffic pattern will also involve changes to the intersection of Piedmont Drive and Memorial Drive and the re-opening of the ramp to eastbound Riverside Drive.
Once traffic has been switched to the new structure, the ramp from eastbound Riverside Drive to southbound Piedmont Drive will be closed for approximately four days to allow for roadway realignment.
The current two-lane structure was built in 1940 to span the Dan River. Due to increased traffic volume and business in the area, the bridge is often congested. The new structure will consist of five-lanes with a multi-use trail for pedestrians and bicycle traffic. It is slated for completion in August 2012.
