VDOT holds community briefing on Route 128 West (Candlers Mountain Road) Bridge maintenance project
Work scheduled for spring 2012

LYNCHBURG—In an effort to reach out in advance to motorists who use the heavily traveled Route 128 (Candlers Mountain Road) corridor, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a community briefing to share details regarding the rehabilitation of the Route 128 West (Candlers Mountain Road) bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Lynchburg.

The briefing will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, in the Ramey Auditorium at the Lynchburg District VDOT Complex, 4303 Campbell Avenue in Lynchburg. Citizens, including school and business representatives will have an opportunity to discuss traffic impacts and construction with VDOT staff.  No formal presentations will be made.

The project involves the replacement of the bridge deck in the westbound lanes of Route 128 over the railroad.  During this maintenance work, one lane of the bridge will be closed at a time and the width of the open lane will be reduced.

The project is scheduled to begin in spring 2012 and last for several months.
