VDOT CREWS BATTLING WINTER WEATHER
Motorists advised to travel with caution tonight, early Monday
LYNCHBURG — Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation have been battling wintry weather across much of Central Virginia throughout the day today and will continue to do so into Monday. While the amount and type of precipitation may vary significantly across the area, all motorists are advised to use caution and be sure of conditions before traveling.
After hours of precipitation in VDOT's Lynchburg District , snow is beginning to cover roads in many locations and slippery conditions are being reported. Crews will remain on duty to apply salt and sand as precipitation falls, as well as to plow roads as snow accumulates. Conditions tomorrow morning may be difficult.
Motorists are cautioned to check local weather and road conditions before traveling. Reduce speeds when driving in icy conditions, increase following distance and allow plenty of travel time.
Motorists should check VDOT’s 511 travel website, www.511virginia.org, before leaving on a trip. The website is updated in real time with weather and road conditions for all highways in Virginia. Once on the road VDOT’s 511 mobile app provides real-time traffic and weather information for both iPhone and Android platforms. Travelers can also call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for real-time information on traffic and road conditions.
