WINTER PRECIPITATION IMPACTS COMMONWEALTH
Ice conditions possible this morning

LYNCHBURG — (5:00 a.m.) The potential for icy roads is certainly present this morning as winter weather begins to come to a close.  Temperatures are still around freezing in most locations. Some road surfaces are partially covered by snow in higher elevations, sleet, ice or even standing water.

VDOT urges motorists to delay travel this morning, if possible. If you must travel, use caution, allow extra space between you and other vehicles, drive slowly and pay particular attention to bridges, overpasses and low lying areas where ice may form first.

Motorists should check VDOT’s 511 travel website, www.511virginia.org, before going out. The website is updated in real time with weather and road conditions for all highways in Virginia. Once on the road VDOT’s 511 mobile app provides real-time traffic and weather information or travelers can call 511 from any phone.

The Lynchburg District is comprised of the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.
