DESIGN PUBLIC HEARINGS SCHEDULED
VDOT staff available to discuss proposed Route 501 and Route 716 projects in Halifax County
LYNCHBURG-Two separate design public hearings for proposed projects in the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be held on Tuesday, April 29 from 4-6 pm at Sydnor Jennings Elementary School, 1011 Sydnor Jennings Road, Natalie, VA 24577.
Citizens will have the opportunity to participate in one or both hearings which will be held in an open forum with no formal presentations. VDOT representatives will be on hand to address citizen concerns.
The Route 716 (Wolf Trap Road) bridge replacement project public hearing, originally scheduled for March 18 and re-scheduled for March 25 but canceled due to inclement weather and school closure, will be held.
The primary purpose of this project is to improve safety by replacing the bridge over the Banister River from 0.063 miles west of Banister River to 0.055 miles east of Banister River. During construction, the bridge will be closed to traffic. The current average daily traffic (ADT) volume of this portion of Route 716 is 290 vehicles per day (vpd) with a design year ADT of 344.
The other design public hearing is for Route 501 (L. P. Bailey Memorial Highway). The primary purpose of this project is to improve safety and operations within the US 501 Corridor. Specifically, the project will consist of the addition of left and right turn lanes in both the south- and northbound directions and the realignment of Route 642 to correct the existing intersection angle between Route 642 and Route 501. During construction, the existing roadways will remain open to traffic.
The ADT at this location on Route 501 is 4431 vpd and on Route 642 is 715 vpd; the design year ADT is 5096 for Route 501 and 822 for Route 641.
Comments can be presented at the hearing, submitted in writing to the appropriate project manager at 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501 or to firstname.lastname@example.org.
