ICY ROAD CONDITIONS POSSIBLE IN SOME LOCATIONS TONIGHT, EARLY FRIDAY
VDOT crews prepared to respond

LYNCHBURG — Motorists should be aware of the possibility of some icy road conditions tonight and early Friday in the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).  While little snow is expected, cold temperatures and moisture from anticipated rain could result in slick roads.

VDOT crews in the Lynchburg District will treat roads as necessary with sand and salt to improve traction and speed the melting process. They will also monitor roadways for downed trees, power lines and other debris that may result from high wind gusts and wet soil conditions.

VDOT offers the following safety tips to the traveling public:

  • Make sure your car is prepared and have the appropriate emergency supplies.
  • Drive for the conditions! Allow plenty of time to reach your destination, and keep a safe distance behind other vehicles. Don’t pass a snowplow or spreader.
  • Be alert for tree limbs and other debris in the roadway.
  • Know before conditions before you go.  Check road conditions on VDOT’s 511 travel website, www.511virginia.org, before traveling.
