ICY ROAD CONDITIONS POSSIBLE TONIGHT AND EARLY WEDNESDAY

LYNCHBURG- (4 pm) Primary and secondary roads across the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are in good condition this afternoon; however, motorists should continue to be aware to the possibility of icy roadways tonight and into the early hours of Wednesday.

Light freezing drizzle is forecast for some areas and motorists should pay particular attention to bridges and overpasses which freeze first.  In addition, any moisture left on roadways may refreeze as temperatures drop.

Motorists can help to ensure their own safety by knowing the conditions before they travel. Check VDOT’s www.511virginia.org, call 511 and/or check local media. In addition, they should make sure all windows, lights, and side mirrors are cleaned before driving and that they have a safe distance of at least five seconds behind other vehicles and allow extra time for travel. They should also be alert to the possibility of downed trees, limbs and other items and drive for the conditions – avoid sudden changes of direction, drive slowly and brake gently. .

The Lynchburg District is comprised of the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.
