TOWN OF ALTAVISTA AND VDOT ---WORKING TOGETHER TO ADDRESS SAFETY FOR CITIZENS AND HEALTH OF TREES
LYNCHBURG – Approximately 20 trees that line Route 43, Bedford Avenue in the Town of Altavista are in need of a little TLC, not just “tender loving care” but “tree limbing and cutting” and that work is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
The Town contacted the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to report that tree limbs were creating issues for motorists and requested assistance. Residents whose property may be involved were contacted to obtain permission for any work that might be done on private property. This work may be necessary to achieve a healthy outcome for the trees, a pleasing result for residents and adequate clearance and safety for the road system. Because overhead utility lines are also involved, this work will require additional expertise and will be done by a company credentialed for performing these operations.
The Town and VDOT want to maintain the look of the area and ensure the safety of motorists.
