SMITH NAMED VDOT LYNCHBURG DISTRICT 2014 TECH OF THE YEAR
LYNCHBURG- Jeremy A. Smith, equipment repair technician II, has been selected as “2014 Technician of the Year” for the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The award is given in recognition of demonstrated professionalism, technical skills, innovation and initiative and safety, as well as community involvement.
Smith has been a VDOT employee for five years and has an Associate Degree in Diesel Repair and Heavy Equipment Operation from Southside Community College. He has taken advantage of the opportunities for additional education/training while with the Department and has taken numerous classes, including automotive professional training from ASE and Mantec. In addition, he has received and is competent in the use of various scan tools and computer software, including those required for work on Caterpillar, Ford, Cummins, G.M. and Navistar equipment. He, also, encourages his co-workers to use technical to help them in their jobs.
Mike Cobb, Smith’s supervisor at the Lynchburg District Shop, said Smith “communicates with dealers…on repairs and technical problems …and helps other (technicians) with technical repairs. (He) is always willing to take on any and all jobs and repairs.”
Outside of VDOT, Smith is a donor to and supporter of Hunters for the Hungry and the Muscular Dystrophy Car Show.
