NUMEROUS ROAD CLOSURES REPORTED IN AREA
LYNCHBURG – Remnants of the Hurricane Michael left portions of Virginia, including the ten-county VDOT Lynchburg District covered in water and debris. Numerous road closures are reported due to flooding or downed trees/power lines and repairs may be lengthy at some locations.
As of 5 a.m., portions of Route 60 in Amherst County are closed due to downed trees, while Route 681 is closed due to downed power lines. A total of seven roads in Appomattox County are closed due to flooding or downed power lines. In Buckingham County, a dozen roads are closed. A portion of US 60 East is closed due to a downed tree. Sections of US 15 North and South, as well as VA 20 are passable with care. Route 653 is washed out.
A section of US 460, as well as Route 643, in Campbell County is passable with care, while portions of four other routes are closed. Damage continues in Charlotte County where sections of approximately a dozen roads are closed. In Cumberland County, part of Route 600 is washed out while another section, along with ten other roads are closed due to flooding or debris.
In Halifax County, over 100 roads are closed at this time; this includes sections of US 58, US 360, US 501, VA 40, VA 57, VA 92, and VA 344. Washouts are reported at VA 57, Routes 617, 621, 636, 677, 678, 705, and 820. In Pittsylvania County, sections of over 50 roads are closed, including parts of US 58, US 360, and Bus US 29. Washouts are reported on Routes 601, 618, 669, 730, 878, and 1501.
Approximately a dozen roads are closed in Prince Edward County, including washouts on Routes 612 and 624. No closures are currently reported in Nelson County.
Crews have worked through the night to maintain roads to the best of their ability. Inspectors are currently inspecting structures to determine their integrity and ensure your safety.
