US 501 NORTH RESTRICTED to ONE LANE OVERNIGHT for PAVING
Operations part of lane extension efforts
LYNCHBURG —Motorists will encounter a lane closure on US 501 in Lynchburg near River Ridge Mall on August 8 and 9, weather permitting, and delays are likely.
The paving operations are part of a project to extend the acceleration lane/left turn lane from the Route 29/460 eastbound exit ramp to Candlers Mountain Road/Mayflower Drive intersection. Work will take place beginning at 7 pm each evening and the lane will reopen to traffic the following morning by 6 am.
Instead of yielding to traffic, motorists driving from Route 29/460 East to Route 501 North will need to come to a complete stop before entering the right lane of Route 501 North. Motorists from Candlers Mountain Road to Route 501 North will also need to come to a complete stop before entering the right lane of Route 501 North.
Use of alternate routes is encouraged. Signs and other traffic control devices will alert motorists to the change in traffic pattern.
